This course equips REALTORS® with essential knowledge to support low to moderate-income buyers through the mortgage process. It covers key aspects of financing, including:
  • Types of Lenders Understand differences between banks, credit unions, brokers, and alternative lenders.
  • Loan Programs Explore FHA, VA, USDA, and local/state options tailored for first-time and income-qualified buyers.
  • Financing Options Learn how to match clients with appropriate mortgage products, including fixed vs. adjustable rates and interest rate buydowns.
The course also highlights available grants and down payment assistance programs, empowering REALTORS® to expand homeownership opportunities. By bridging knowledge gaps in financing, REALTORS® can better serve their clients and promote more inclusive, equitable housing outcomes.

Frank has been a Business Development Officer with Virginia Housing for the last five years.  He is responsible for working with lenders, REALTORS, non-profit organizations and city/county housing offices to help them use Virginia Housing loan programs to promote increases in affordable homeownership throughout the state.  During his tenure at Virginia Housing, their load production and market share have continually increased and set new records.  Frank's previous experience in the housing industry was as a top producing mortgage loan officer in Hampton Roads for 35 years.  His hands on experience and passion for promoting affordable homeownership enable him to relate to everyone in the home buying process and help more people enjoy the benefits of homeownerships.

Cancellation requests (written or phoned) will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. two business days preceding each class. All paid tuition other than the $10 non-refundable, non-transferable to another person deposit will be refunded. No refunds will be given for cancellations made after the close of business on that day. (Requests for refund consideration due to extenuating circumstances must be received by CAAR in writing within 15 days after class start date).
